Chemical Dye Engineer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- oversee all aspects of each shift to ensure production requirements are met
- operation of equipment and ensuring that production schedule is followed
- monitor inventory for chemical and dyes
- work with dyes and chemicals within the guidelines of appropriate Safety Data Sheets
- promote and maintain a safe work environment for associates
- responsible for establishing and maintaining strong communication lines, both within the department, and with surrounding areas
- ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods into the department, and finished material out of the department
- responsible for passing shades and sample preparation, presentation to color matching computer, and a thorough visual assessment of the shade
- work with all chemical and dye suppliers on issues or new chemistry
- work with lab to develop new shades and to approve all dye symbols on each lot received
- work closely with shop associates to ensure all parts are ordered and received
- manage Kronos System in Package Dye, Stock Dye and Dye Lab (i.e. punch approval, adjustments, etc.)
- monitor and maintain housekeeping of dye houses
- assist off shifts to solve problems and ensure there is a smooth flow of production
- to manage quality through seconds report, also work with other departments in quality issues, reducing waste from the department
- work closely with associates to address questions/concerns that may arise
- regular follow-up to coordinate procedure changes, quality issues, safety matters, etc. across all shifts
- work closely with HR on performance and corrective action matters
- attend daily meetings (i.e. quality, various manufacturing)
- multiple tasks in the AS-400 (i.e. monitor dye process, inventory, etc.)
- work closely with department managers and supervisors within manufacturing
- perform miscellaneous duties as necessary
- follow safe work practices
- support LEAN, safety, sustainability, and environmental initiatives
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- must have engineer or technician textile, chemical engineer or experience equivalent
- proven ability to lead others and achieve positive results
- demonstrated capacity to meet aggressive deadlines with multiple priorities
- ability to operate a computer with an understanding of internal software packages
- willingness to work overtime as needed
- must be dependable, punctual, and adhere to attendance policy
- proven ability to exercise sound judgment and the ability to work with confidential information
- must adhere to all company policies and procedures
- must be cooperative and willing to learn new responsibilities
- must have strong attention to detail
- must be able to communicate professionally with coworkers and other departments
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- prior manufacturing experience
- knowledge of dyeing and dyehouse operation helpful
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- the ability to wear a filtering face piece (dust mask) as needed
- must be able to work in varying temperatures within manufacturing areas
- must have manual dexterity and color acuity
- frequent walking, standing, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping and crouching
- must be able to lift and carry bulky and heavy objects up to 50 pounds
- extensive use of keyboards/computer terminals
